AREA ATTRACTIONS AND SERVICES

Many attractions/festivals/art tours in Huntsville, Dwight area and Dorset.

  • Dwight Market (grocery store 10 minutes away)
  • Gas Station (5 minutes away on #35 and #60; also has a convenience store)
  • Henrietta’s Pine Bakery (5 minutes away on #60; always a line up but always worth it) 705-635-2214
  • Robinsons General Store (Voted Canada’s Best General Store) 15 minutes drive in Dorset
  • Huntsville (size of, and similar to Dundas, but on a River; has a movie theatre)

RESTAURANTS

  • Port Cunnington Resort (5 minute drive –turn right when you head out Thompsons Portage Road and then it is on the left; open May to October, reservations recommended)
  • Deerhurst Bar or Eclipse Dining Room, live singing and dancing show (where Shania was discovered)
  • Bush Bar and Grill (5 minute drive) – Roadhouse and also has a Seasonal Wine Bar located on the Upper Level (a little higher end)
  • Three Guys and a Stove (Huntsville, 25 minutes away)
  • Moose Café (Breakfast, family friendly, 8 minutes away on #60 towards Huntsville)
  • Arrowhon Resort (45 minutes away- spectacular lodge, reservations required – worth the drive!)

SPORTING ACTIVITIES

  • **Bondi Resort is a resort that is a 3-minute drive and offers 20 km of groomed trails for snowshoeing and Cross Country Skiing. Just Park there and register and you will receive a trail map. $6 for snowshoeing and $10 for Cross Country. Carol and Brian are the owners – very nice people! If they are not in the office you can catch them on the way back.
  • Algonquin Park (20 minutes to West Gate)

  • Dwight and Dorset have outdoor skating Rinks
  • Many Golf courses in the area including Deerhurst and Grandview
  • Hidden Valley Ski Resort (20 minutes away)
  • Arrow head Park – has a 1 ½ km skating trail through the woods, tubing, snowshoeing and Cross Country trails – all equipment rentals available (35 minute drive, slightly north of Huntsville)

  • Dorset Lookout Tower – amazing views and hiking trail (15 minutes away)
  • Bigwin Boat Tours (Antique Steamship) does 1 hour tour of the Lake leaving out of Dorset; offers special cruises like “Yoga Cruise”- check out website- reservations required
  • Muskoka Wildlife Center, Heritage Village, and others – brochures in the Loft Library

FESTIVALS

  • Dorset Snowball (Always the 3rd Saturday in February) Google it for a list of events,food,music, etc.
  • Dwight Winter Carnival  (2nd weekend in February) Google for details but there is food, outdoor activities, shows
  • Bracebridge Fire and Ice Festival – (45 minutes away) (Last Saturday in January) Snow is trucked in and the downtown Main Street is turned in to an epic Tubing Hill with much more
  • North American Pond Hockey Tournament Gravenhurst (45 minutes away)
